Cambridge native joins 2024-25 SLB Playoff Champions

TORONTO / LEICESTER, UK — Tonbara Sports & Entertainment is proud to announce Trent Johnson has signed a one-year contract with the Leicester Riders of Super League Basketball.

Johnson, a 6-6 wing from Cambridge, Ontario, joins one of the most successful clubs in British basketball history. Leicester won the 2024-25 SLB Playoffs in the league's inaugural season and has remained a perennial contender under longtime head coach Rob Paternostro.

The signing marks a significant step in Johnson's professional career. He spent the 2025 season with the Montreal Alliance in the CEBL, gaining valuable experience in Canada's top professional league. The move to Leicester brings his game to one of Europe's most competitive basketball markets.

At Houston Christian, Johnson established himself as a lethal perimeter shooter, making 42.6% of his three-pointers and 84.3% of his free throws. He was named to the E*TRADE Men's 3-Point Championship watch list and started 28 of 30 games in his final collegiate season.

Johnson's path to professional basketball included stops at Midland College, where he helped lead the Chaparrals to a 28-7 record and an NJCAA National Tournament appearance, and at Idaho State before transferring to Houston Christian.
